Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, and organized Assistant General Counsel to join The University of Kansas Health System. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance, as well as a deep commitment to providing excellent legal advice and services.The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal advice and guidance to the Health System's executive leadership on a wide range of topics, including healthcare compliance, risk management, contracting, and employment law. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and procedures, as well as the ability to think critically and provide sound legal advice.The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of legal experience, preferably in the healthcare industry, and a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school. In addition, we are looking for an individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously. Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal advice and guidance to the Health System's executive leadership on a wide range of topics, including healthcare compliance, risk management, contracting, and employment law.
  2. Monitor and review relevant laws, regulations, and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  3. Perform research and analysis of legal matters related to healthcare operations.
  4. Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, memoranda, and agreements.
  5. Prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
  6. Represent the organization in court hearings and proceedings.
  7. Handle disputes and litigation matters.
  8. Manage the day-to-day operations of the legal department.
  9. Develop and implement effective policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  10. Maintain professional and ethical standards of practice.
  11. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  12. Provide guidance and support to other departments within the Health System.
  13. Participate in conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
