
Assistant General Counsel
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, and organized Assistant General Counsel to join The University of Kansas Health System. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance, as well as a deep commitment to providing excellent legal advice and services.The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal advice and guidance to the Health System's executive leadership on a wide range of topics, including healthcare compliance, risk management, contracting, and employment law. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and procedures, as well as the ability to think critically and provide sound legal advice.The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of legal experience, preferably in the healthcare industry, and a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school. In addition, we are looking for an individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously. Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and guidance to the Health System's executive leadership on a wide range of topics, including healthcare compliance, risk management, contracting, and employment law.
- Monitor and review relevant laws, regulations, and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Perform research and analysis of legal matters related to healthcare operations.
- Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, memoranda, and agreements.
- Prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Represent the organization in court hearings and proceedings.
- Handle disputes and litigation matters.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the legal department.
- Develop and implement effective policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain professional and ethical standards of practice.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
- Provide guidance and support to other departments within the Health System.
- Participate in conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
