Job Description

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking a highly qualified Soil Scientist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the cutting edge of soil science and help advance the mission of the USDA. We are looking for a passionate individual who is eager to make an impact and bring their expertise to the table. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in soil science, a comprehensive understanding of soil characteristics, and experience using methods to evaluate soil. The successful applicant will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The successful candidate will also possess a Bachelor’s degree in soil science or a related field, and have a minimum of three years of experience in soil science. Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize methods to evaluate soil characteristics
  2. Develop and apply soil science knowledge and techniques
  3. Monitor soil conditions and provide data to inform decision-making
  4. Collaborate with other scientists and stakeholders to advance the USDA mission
  5. Prepare soil testing reports and other documents
  6. Keep up-to-date with developments in soil science
  7. Provide expertise and advice to other departments and stakeholders
  8. Maintain and update soil science databases
  9. Participate in field studies, experiments, and other research activities
  10. Maintain lab equipment and supplies in good working condition
