  1. Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures on patients of all ages, using proper techniques to ensure accurate and timely collection of blood specimens.
  2. Label and process specimens according to established protocols and procedures.
  3. Properly handle and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, ensuring timely delivery and accurate processing.
  4. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following infection control and safety protocols to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for patients and staff.
  5. Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, providing clear instructions and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
  6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses and physicians, to ensure accurate specimen collection and timely delivery of results.
  7. Utilize electronic health records and other computer systems to document and track patient information and test results.
  8. Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies, ensuring adequate levels for daily operations.
  9. Adhere to all quality assurance and quality control standards, participating in regular training and competency evaluations.
  10. Continuously strive to improve phlebotomy techniques and stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
  11. Follow HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  12. Participate in departmental and organizational meetings and initiatives to contribute to the success and growth of UCHealth.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification: Uchealth Requires All Phlebotomists To Be Certified By A Nationally Recognized Organization Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha).

  • Experience: A Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience As A Phlebotomist Is Preferred, With Experience Working In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting Highly Desirable.

  • Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: Phlebotomists At Uchealth Must Possess A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology To Accurately Label And Handle Blood Samples.

  • Attention To Detail: As The Primary Responsibility Of A Phlebotomist Is To Collect And Handle Blood Samples, Attention To Detail Is Critical To Ensure Accurate And Safe Collection, Labeling, And Transport Of Samples.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent Communication Skills Are Necessary For A Phlebotomist To Effectively Interact With Patients, Healthcare Professionals, And Laboratory Staff In A Professional And Empathetic Manner.
