- Operate locomotive and control train speed and movement according to safety regulations and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with other crew members, including conductors and dispatchers, to ensure smooth and efficient train operation.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of locomotive equipment to ensure proper functioning and report any issues or malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate records of train movement, including mileage, fuel usage, and delays.
- Monitor train performance and make adjustments as needed to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment and following safety rules and regulations.
- Remain alert and attentive at all times while operating the locomotive, maintaining situational awareness and responding promptly to any potential hazards.
- Comply with all federal and state regulations, including those related to hours of service and train speed.
- Continuously monitor and assess train movement and make necessary adjustments to maintain schedule and meet delivery deadlines.
- Conduct emergency procedures and respond to any unexpected situations or incidents, including equipment failure or hazardous conditions.
- Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to maintain and improve job skills and knowledge.
- Maintain a professional and customer-focused attitude, providing exceptional service to passengers and customers.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure proper maintenance and repair of locomotive equipment.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to workplace safety, diversity, and equal employment opportunity.
- Represent Union Pacific Railroad in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Minimum Of High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education
Completion Of A Certified Locomotive Engineer Training Program
Valid State-Issued Class A Commercial Driver's License (Cdl)
Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience Working As A Locomotive Engineer
Ability To Pass A Background Check And Drug/Alcohol Screening
