  1. Operate locomotives in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  2. Monitor train performance and make adjustments as needed to ensure timely and efficient transportation of goods and passengers.
  3. Communicate effectively with train crew members, dispatchers, and other personnel to ensure smooth operation of trains.
  4. Conduct pre-trip inspections of locomotives and report any issues or malfunctions.
  5. Follow all federal and company regulations regarding hours of service, train speed, and other operational guidelines.
  6. Maintain a clean driving record and comply with all traffic laws and regulations.
  7. Continuously monitor and assess train conditions and potential hazards, taking appropriate action to prevent accidents or delays.
  8. Stay up-to-date on industry regulations and best practices, and implement them in daily operations.
  9. Collaborate with train crew members to troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical issues that may arise during trips.
  10. Provide exceptional customer service to passengers and shippers, responding to inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  11. Complete required paperwork and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  12. Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  13. Maintain a positive and professional attitude, representing Union Pacific in a positive light at all times.
  14. Work collaboratively with other departments and team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Locomotive Engineer Job At Union Pacific Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent.

  • Previous Experience In Railway Operations: Candidates Must Have Previous Experience Working In Railway Operations, Such As As A Conductor Or Brakeman, To Be Considered For A Locomotive Engineer Job At Union Pacific.

  • Completion Of Locomotive Engineer Training Program: Union Pacific Requires That All Locomotive Engineer Candidates Complete A Rigorous Training Program Before Being Eligible For Employment.

  • Knowledge Of Federal Railroad Administration Rules And Regulations: Locomotive Engineers Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Federal Railroad Administration’s Rules And Regulations, As Well As Union Pacific’s Operating Procedures.

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License: Candidates Must Possess A Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Cdl) With An Air Brake Endorsement To Operate Locomotives At Union Pacific.
