  1. Operate locomotives and trains in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all company and industry safety regulations and protocols.
  2. Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of locomotives and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  3. Communicate with train crew members and dispatchers to coordinate movement of trains and ensure timely delivery of freight.
  4. Monitor train speed, braking, and other operating systems to maintain safe and efficient operation.
  5. Troubleshoot and address any mechanical issues that may arise during train operation.
  6. Maintain accurate records of train movements, delays, and mechanical issues.
  7. Continuously monitor track conditions and report any abnormalities or hazards.
  8. Collaborate with maintenance and repair teams to ensure locomotives are properly serviced and maintained.
  9. Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to train operations, safety, and customer service.
  10. Stay up-to-date on industry regulations and best practices related to train operations.
  11. Provide excellent customer service by promptly addressing any issues or concerns from customers.
  12. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to safety and efficiency in all aspects of the job.
  13. Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  14. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment by communicating effectively with team members and other departments.
  15. Represent Union Pacific Railroad in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Or Ged: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Locomotive Engineer At Union Pacific Railroad Is A High School Diploma Or Ged. This Demonstrates Basic Educational Competency And The Ability To Follow Instructions.

  • Previous Railroad Experience: Union Pacific Railroad Prefers Candidates With Previous Railroad Experience, Especially In Locomotive Operation. This Experience Can Be Gained Through Working In Other Positions At The Railroad Or Through Training At A Recognized Railroad School.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Locomotive Engineers Are Responsible For Operating And Maintaining Complex Machinery, So A Strong Mechanical Aptitude Is Essential. This Includes The Ability To Troubleshoot And Repair Minor Mechanical Issues On The Locomotive.

  • Physical Endurance: The Job Of A Locomotive Engineer Can Be Physically Demanding, As It Involves Long Hours Of Sitting, Standing, And Operating Heavy Equipment. Candidates Should Be Physically Fit And Able To Meet The Physical Demands Of The Job.
