- Operate locomotives in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all company and industry regulations and protocols.
- Monitor and troubleshoot any mechanical issues or malfunctions with the locomotive.
- Conduct pre and post-trip inspections to ensure locomotive is in proper working condition.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members to ensure on-time and efficient delivery of cargo.
- Uphold a high level of professionalism and customer service when interacting with customers and coworkers.
- Follow proper safety procedures to ensure the well-being of yourself and others.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of train operations and any incidents that occur.
- Continuously monitor and adjust speed and braking to ensure safe and smooth operation of the train.
- Stay up-to-date on industry regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with other team members to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
- Represent the company in a positive manner at all times and maintain a positive attitude towards the job.
- Be available for flexible and varied work schedules, including weekends and holidays.
- Handle any emergency situations that may arise during train operations.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the company's goals and objectives.
Minimum Of High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Locomotive Engineer At Union Pacific Railroad Must Have At Least A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education.
Valid Driver's License And Clean Driving Record: A Valid Driver's License Is Required To Operate A Locomotive, And Union Pacific Railroad Requires A Clean Driving Record To Ensure Safety And Responsibility.
Completion Of A Locomotive Engineer Training Program: Union Pacific Railroad Offers A Comprehensive Training Program For Their Locomotive Engineers, Which Must Be Completed Before Being Hired For The Job.
Previous Experience In The Railroad Industry: While Not Always Required, Having Previous Experience In The Railroad Industry Can Give An Applicant An Advantage In The Hiring Process For A Locomotive Engineer Position At Union Pacific Railroad.
