  1. Operate locomotives and trains in a safe and efficient manner, following all company and industry regulations and guidelines.
  2. Conduct pre-trip inspections of locomotives and train equipment to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  3. Communicate effectively with other members of the train crew and dispatchers to ensure a smooth and timely operation.
  4. Monitor train performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  5. Report any issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel and take necessary safety precautions.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of train movements and activities.
  7. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
  8. Stay up-to-date on company and industry policies, procedures, and regulations.
  9. Continuously monitor and assess train conditions and make necessary adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  10. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and attention to detail in all job duties.
  11. Provide exceptional customer service to passengers and maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  12. Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  13. Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the overall success of the railroad operation.
  14. Represent the company in a professional manner and maintain a positive image of Union Pacific Railroad.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Locomotive Engineer Job At Union Pacific Railroad Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates A Basic Level Of Education And Understanding Required To Perform The Job Duties.

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (Cdl): A Locomotive Engineer Must Possess A Valid Cdl With Appropriate Endorsements For The Type Of Locomotive They Will Be Operating. This Ensures The Engineer Is Trained And Qualified To Safely Operate Large And Heavy Vehicles.

  • Prior Experience In Railroad Operations: Union Pacific Railroad Prefers Applicants With Prior Experience In Railroad Operations, Such As Working As A Conductor Or Brakeman. This Demonstrates A Basic Understanding Of Railroad Operations And Safety Procedures.

  • Physical Fitness And Ability To Pass Medical Exams: Locomotive Engineers Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Pass Medical Exams To Ensure They Can Perform The Job Duties Safely And Effectively. This Includes Having Good Vision, Hearing, And Reflexes.

  • Completion Of Union Pacific Railroad's Training Program: All Locomotive Engineers At Union Pacific Railroad Must Complete The Company's Training Program, Which Includes Classroom Instruction And On-The-Job Training. This Ensures Engineers Are Trained In Company-Specific Procedures And Safety Protocols.
