- Operate locomotives and trains to transport freight across the Union Pacific network.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safe operation of locomotives and trains.
- Monitor and maintain locomotive equipment, including conducting pre-trip inspections and performing routine maintenance.
- Communicate with dispatchers and other train crew members to ensure efficient and timely transportation of freight.
- Monitor train speed and track conditions to ensure safe and efficient travel.
- Monitor train controls and instruments to ensure proper functioning and make necessary adjustments when needed.
- Follow all federal, state, and company regulations and guidelines for the operation of trains.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors immediately.
- Keep accurate records of train movements, equipment usage, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the locomotive cab.
- Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
- Uphold the company's commitment to customer service and community relations.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Valid Engineer Certification: A Qualified Candidate For The Locomotive Engineer Job At Union Pacific Railroad Must Possess A Valid Engineer Certification From The Federal Railroad Administration (Fra). This Certification Demonstrates The Candidate's Ability To Safely Operate A Locomotive And Adhere To All Federal Regulations.
Extensive Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience Operating A Locomotive. This Experience Should Include A Variety Of Routes, Weather Conditions, And Freight Types To Demonstrate The Candidate's Adaptability And Proficiency.
