  1. Operate locomotives and trains to transport freight across the Union Pacific network.
  2. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safe operation of locomotives and trains.
  3. Monitor and maintain locomotive equipment, including conducting pre-trip inspections and performing routine maintenance.
  4. Communicate with dispatchers and other train crew members to ensure efficient and timely transportation of freight.
  5. Monitor train speed and track conditions to ensure safe and efficient travel.
  6. Monitor train controls and instruments to ensure proper functioning and make necessary adjustments when needed.
  7. Follow all federal, state, and company regulations and guidelines for the operation of trains.
  8. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors immediately.
  9. Keep accurate records of train movements, equipment usage, and maintenance activities.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the locomotive cab.
  11. Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
  12. Uphold the company's commitment to customer service and community relations.
  13. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  14. Collaborate with other team members to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trains.
  15. Represent Union Pacific in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Valid Engineer Certification: A Qualified Candidate For The Locomotive Engineer Job At Union Pacific Railroad Must Possess A Valid Engineer Certification From The Federal Railroad Administration (Fra). This Certification Demonstrates The Candidate's Ability To Safely Operate A Locomotive And Adhere To All Federal Regulations.

  • Extensive Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience Operating A Locomotive. This Experience Should Include A Variety Of Routes, Weather Conditions, And Freight Types To Demonstrate The Candidate's Adaptability And Proficiency.

  • Knowledge Of Railroad Operations: A Locomotive Engineer At Union Pacific Railroad Must Have A Deep Understanding Of Railroad Operations, Including Signals, Track Layouts, And Train Handling. This Knowledge Ensures The Safe And Efficient Movement Of Trains On The Railroad.

  • Physical Fitness: The Job Of A Locomotive Engineer Requires Long Hours Of Sitting And Operating Controls, As Well As The Ability To Climb Ladders And Walk On Uneven Terrain. Therefore, Candidates Must Pass A Physical Examination To Ensure They Can Perform The Physical Demands Of The Job.
