- Develop and implement safety programs and policies in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide safety training and education to employees to promote a culture of safety.
- Investigate and analyze safety incidents and accidents, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Collaborate with other departments and teams to ensure safety protocols are followed and maintained.
- Stay updated on industry safety trends, regulations, and best practices, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop risk management strategies to mitigate potential safety risks.
- Create and maintain safety records and reports, and provide regular updates to management.
- Monitor and evaluate safety performance metrics and make recommendations for improvement.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and represent the company in safety-related matters.
- Conduct safety meetings and communicate safety updates and initiatives to employees.
- Develop emergency response plans and procedures and conduct drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
- Respond to safety-related concerns and inquiries from employees and the public.
- Foster a positive safety culture by promoting safety awareness and recognition programs.
- Collaborate with other safety specialists and professionals to share best practices and lessons learned.
Knowledge Of Federal And State Safety Regulations: A Safety Specialist At Union Pacific Railroad Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of All Relevant Safety Regulations And Guidelines Set By Federal And State Agencies Such As The Federal Railroad Administration (Fra) And The Occupational Safety And Health Administration (Osha).
Experience In Railroad Safety: Candidates For This Role Should Have A Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In The Railroad Industry, With A Focus On Safety. This Includes Experience In Conducting Safety Audits, Developing Safety Protocols, And Implementing Safety Training Programs.
Strong Communication Skills: Safety Specialists At Union Pacific Railroad Are Responsible For Communicating Safety Procedures And Regulations To Employees At All Levels Of The Organization. Therefore, Candidates Must Possess Excellent Verbal And Written Communication Skills.
