- Perform regular inspections and maintenance on signal systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose signal system issues and make necessary repairs in a timely manner.
- Conduct routine tests and calibrations of signal equipment to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
- Install, replace, and upgrade signal components as needed to improve functionality and safety.
- Respond promptly to signal system malfunctions or failures to minimize delays and maintain safe operations.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed on signal systems.

- Collaborate with other team members and departments to coordinate signal maintenance and repairs with train schedules and operations.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and new technologies related to signal systems and implement them as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers to report progress, issues, and solutions related to signal maintenance.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to continuously improve skills and knowledge related to signal systems.
- Adhere to all company policies and regulations to maintain a high level of professionalism and represent Union Pacific Railroad positively to customers and the public.
- Act as an ambassador for safety by promoting safe practices and identifying potential hazards in the workplace.
Knowledge Of Railroad Operations: A Signal Maintainer Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Operations And Safety Procedures Of Railroads, Including Signaling Systems, Track Maintenance, And Train Movements.
Technical Skills: This Role Requires Strong Technical Skills, Such As The Ability To Read And Interpret Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshoot Electrical And Mechanical Issues, And Use Specialized Tools And Equipment.
Communication Skills: Signal Maintainers Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Other Railroad Personnel, Including Train Crews, Dispatchers, And Other Maintenance Workers. They Must Also Be Able To Accurately Document Work Performed.
Physical Fitness: This Job Involves Physical Labor, Including Climbing Ladders And Poles, Lifting Heavy Equipment, And Working In All Weather Conditions. Signal Maintainers Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform These Tasks Safely.
