- Monitor signal systems and promptly respond to any malfunctions or failures to minimize disruptions to train operations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including equipment inspections and replacement of faulty components.
- Collaborate with other railroad personnel to coordinate signal system maintenance and repairs with train schedules.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures while working on or near railroad tracks and equipment.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in signal technology and make recommendations for upgrades or improvements to existing systems.
- Keep track of inventory and order necessary replacement parts and materials for signal system maintenance and repairs.
- Train and mentor new signal maintenance technicians as needed.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and dedication to the railroad industry, representing Union Pacific Railroad's values to colleagues and customers.
Knowledge Of Railroad Signal Systems: A Signal Maintainer Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Railroad Signal Systems, Including Wayside, Interlocking, And Grade Crossing Signals.
Electrical And Mechanical Skills: The Job Requires Strong Electrical And Mechanical Skills To Troubleshoot, Repair, And Maintain Signal Equipment And Systems.
Safety Consciousness: Safety Is A Top Priority In The Railroad Industry, And A Signal Maintainer Must Have A Strong Commitment To Following Safety Protocols And Procedures.
Communication And Teamwork: Signal Maintainers Often Work In Teams And Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Co-Workers, Supervisors, And Other Railroad Personnel.
