- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on railroad signaling systems, including electronic, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with signaling equipment to identify and resolve malfunctions or defects.
- Conduct repairs and replacements on damaged or malfunctioning signaling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation of the railroad network.
- Follow proper safety protocols and procedures while working on or near active railroad tracks.
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation related to maintenance and repairs.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to report progress and any issues encountered.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to railroad signaling systems.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of signaling equipment, making recommendations for upgrades or replacements as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments and teams to coordinate maintenance and repairs, and ensure timely completion of work.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and make recommendations to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Train and mentor new Signal Maintainers as needed.
- Stay current with advancements in signaling technology and participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Represent Union Pacific Railroad in a professional manner, upholding our company values and commitment to safety at all times.
Knowledge Of Railroad Safety Regulations And Procedures: A Signal Maintainer Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Safety Rules And Regulations Specific To The Railroad Industry, Including Those Related To Signal Maintenance And Repair.
Electrical And Mechanical Skills: This Role Requires A Strong Background In Electrical And Mechanical Systems, As Well As The Ability To Troubleshoot And Repair Complex Signal Equipment And Components.
Experience With Signal System Maintenance: Candidates For This Position Should Have Previous Experience With Maintaining And Repairing Railroad Signal Systems, Including Knowledge Of Various Signal Types And Their Corresponding Technologies.
Physical Fitness And Agility: The Job Of A Signal Maintainer Involves Working Outdoors In All Weather Conditions And Performing Physically Demanding Tasks, Such As Climbing Ladders And Working In Confined Spaces. Therefore, Candidates Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform These Tasks Safely.
