- Monitor and control the movement of trains throughout the network to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Communicate with train crews, dispatchers, and other rail personnel to coordinate train movements and resolve any operational issues.
- Utilize computer systems and other tools to track train locations, speeds, and schedules.
- Make quick and accurate decisions in response to changing conditions, such as weather, track maintenance, and train delays.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as mechanical and engineering, to ensure timely and safe movement of trains.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of railroad operations and safety procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and protocols.
- Monitor and report on train movements and delays to management and other stakeholders.
- Identify and troubleshoot any issues that may arise during train operations, taking appropriate action to resolve them.
- Train and mentor new dispatchers as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including train crews, customers, and other railroad personnel.
- Collaborate with other dispatchers and departments to continuously improve processes and procedures.

High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Train Dispatcher Job At Union Pacific Railroad Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures That The Individual Has The Basic Knowledge And Skills Necessary To Perform The Job Duties.
Knowledge Of Railroad Operations: A Train Dispatcher Needs To Have A Thorough Understanding Of Railroad Operations, Including Train Schedules, Routes, And Safety Procedures. This Knowledge Will Be Essential In Coordinating And Directing The Movement Of Trains On The Railroad Network.
