  1. Provide excellent care for large animals, including monitoring their health, administering medications, and assisting with procedures.
  2. Communicate effectively with veterinarians, researchers, and other team members to ensure the highest level of care for animals.
  3. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all animals under your care.
  4. Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for large animal care.
  5. Handle and restrain animals in a safe and humane manner.
  6. Assist with research projects and clinical trials by providing technical support and collecting accurate data.
  7. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure the well-being of animals, staff, and visitors.
  8. Train and mentor new veterinary technicians and students on proper animal handling and care techniques.
  9. Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement new protocols and procedures to improve animal care.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure the safety and comfort of animals.
  11. Stay updated on the latest advancements and techniques in large animal care and share knowledge with colleagues.
  12. Participate in on-call and emergency rotations as needed.
  13. Demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare and the mission of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine.
  14. Represent the institution in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Degree In Veterinary Technology Or Related Field: A Veterinary Technician At The University Of Pennsylvania Must Have A Degree In Veterinary Technology Or A Related Field To Demonstrate A Strong Foundation In Animal Health And Care.

  • Experience With Large Animals: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience Working With Large Animals Such As Horses, Cows, Or Other Livestock. This Will Ensure That They Are Comfortable Handling And Providing Medical Care To These Animals.

  • Knowledge Of Veterinary Procedures And Treatments: The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Common Veterinary Procedures And Treatments For Large Animals. This Includes Knowledge Of Anesthesia, Surgical Techniques, And Medication Administration.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Veterinary Technician, The Candidate Will Work Closely With Veterinarians, Other Technicians, And Animal Owners. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential To Effectively Communicate With These Individuals And Work As A Team.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: The University Of Pennsylvania's Large Animal Veterinary Clinic Can Be A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment. The Candidate Should Be Able To Work Efficiently Under Pressure And Handle Multiple Tasks At Once. This Will Ensure That Animals Receive Prompt And Effective Care.
