Job Description

Welcome to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southern California! We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Faculty members in the fields of Physics and Astronomy. As a Faculty member, you will have the opportunity to shape the minds of future scientists, conduct cutting-edge research, and contribute to the vibrant academic community at USC. If you have a strong background in Physics and/or Astronomy and a passion for teaching and research, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

  1. Develop and deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and workshops in the fields of Physics and Astronomy.
  2. Create and implement course materials and assessments that align with program objectives and student learning outcomes.
  3. Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students in Physics and Astronomy.
  4. Conduct original research in the field of Physics and/or Astronomy and publish findings in reputable journals and conferences.
  5. Secure external funding through grant applications to support research projects.
  6. Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to foster a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.
  7. Participate in departmental and university committees and initiatives to contribute to the overall academic community.
  8. Engage in professional development activities to stay current with developments in the fields of Physics and Astronomy.
  9. Participate in recruitment and retention efforts for the department and actively contribute to the diversity and inclusion initiatives of the university.
  10. Serve as a representative of the department and university at conferences, events, and other professional settings.
  11. Maintain and foster positive relationships with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders in the department and university.
  12. Adhere to ethical and professional standards in teaching, research, and service.

Job Qualifications
  • A Doctoral Degree In Physics Or Astronomy From A Reputable University.

  • Proven Experience In Teaching Physics And Astronomy Courses At The Undergraduate And Graduate Levels.

  • A Strong Research Record With Publications In Top-Tier Journals And The Ability To Secure External Funding.

  • Demonstrated Expertise In A Specialized Area Of Physics Or Astronomy, Such As Astrophysics, Quantum Mechanics, Or Particle Physics.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Colleagues And Mentor Students.
