1. Greet and welcome patients and their families in a warm and friendly manner upon arrival at the hospital.
2. Explain the phlebotomy process and procedures to patients and their families in a clear and understandable manner.
3. Obtain accurate patient information and verify patient identity before collecting blood samples.
4. Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages.
5. Label and accurately record all specimens collected, ensuring proper identification and documentation.
6. Properly handle and store all specimens for transport to the laboratory, following established safety and infection control protocols.
7. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including regularly disinfecting phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
8. Monitor and maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as needed.
9. Work closely with other healthcare team members to ensure timely and accurate collection and processing of blood samples.
10. Provide excellent customer service and address any patient or family concerns or questions related to the phlebotomy process.
11. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, including HIPAA guidelines.
12. Attend and actively participate in training and continuing education opportunities to stay updated on best practices and advancements in phlebotomy techniques.
13. Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy at all times.
14. Collaborate with laboratory staff to troubleshoot and resolve any specimen-related issues.
15. Maintain accurate and complete records of all phlebotomy procedures performed.
16. Follow proper safety protocols and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment and disposing of hazardous materials appropriately.
17. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for improving the phlebotomy process.
18. Stay current on industry trends and advancements in phlebotomy techniques and technologies.
19. Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working with patients and team members.
20. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
