- Greet and welcome patients and their families in a warm and friendly manner upon arrival at the hospital.
- Explain the phlebotomy process and procedures to patients and their families in a clear and understandable manner.
- Obtain accurate patient information and verify patient identity before collecting blood samples.
- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages.
- Label and accurately record all specimens collected, ensuring proper identification and documentation.
- Properly handle and store all specimens for transport to the laboratory, following established safety and infection control protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including regularly disinfecting phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as needed.
- Work closely with other healthcare team members to ensure timely and accurate collection and processing of blood samples.
- Provide excellent customer service and address any patient or family concerns or questions related to the phlebotomy process.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, including HIPAA guidelines.
- Attend and actively participate in training and continuing education opportunities to stay updated on best practices and advancements in phlebotomy techniques.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy at all times.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to troubleshoot and resolve any specimen-related issues.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all phlebotomy procedures performed.
- Follow proper safety protocols and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment and disposing of hazardous materials appropriately.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for improving the phlebotomy process.
- Stay current on industry trends and advancements in phlebotomy techniques and technologies.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working with patients and team members.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Certification And Licensure: A Phlebotomist At Children's Hospital Colorado Should Have A Valid Certification From A Recognized Phlebotomy Program And Be Licensed By The State Of Colorado.
