
Animal Research Support Specialist

- Provide support for animal care and welfare: The Animal Research Support Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the proper care and welfare of animals involved in research at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This includes conducting daily health checks, administering treatments and medications, and maintaining clean and safe living environments for the animals.
- Assist with research activities: The Specialist will assist scientists with a variety of research activities, including handling and restraining animals, collecting and processing samples, and setting up and maintaining experimental equipment. They will also help with data collection and organization.
- Ensure compliance with regulations: The Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all animal research activities comply with federal and institutional regulations and guidelines. This includes maintaining accurate records and participating in inspections and audits.
- Train and supervise staff: The Specialist will train and supervise research staff in proper animal handling techniques and protocols. They will also provide guidance and support to ensure that all staff members are following proper procedures for animal care and research.

- Collaborate with researchers: The Specialist will work closely with research scientists to plan and implement animal studies. They will also assist with data analysis and interpretation as needed.
- Participate in educational and outreach activities: The Specialist will participate in educational and outreach activities to promote the importance of animal research and educate the public about the ethical and humane treatment of research animals.
- Adhere to ethical standards: The Specialist will adhere to ethical standards and guidelines for animal research, as outlined by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and other regulatory bodies.

Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field (E.g. Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology)
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Animal Research Or Laboratory Setting
Familiarity With Animal Care And Husbandry Practices, Including Proper Handling And Restraint Techniques
Knowledge Of Federal And Institutional Regulations Governing Animal Research, Including Iacuc Protocols And Animal Welfare Guidelines
Strong Organizational Skills And Attention To Detail, With The Ability To Maintain Accurate Records And Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
