Macy's is an American department store chain founded in 1858 by Rowland Hussey Macy. It is owned by Macy's, Inc., a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. The company operates approximately 800 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as the macys.com website. Macy's, Inc. is divided into four main divisions: Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Bluemercury, and Macy's Backstage. Each division has its own management structure and operates as a separate entity.
