
Bioinformatics Specialist
Massachusetts General Hospital is looking for a dynamic Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team and provide cutting-edge informatics solutions to biomedical research. This individual will join our team of dedicated professionals in a collaborative, highly charged environment to develop and apply computational approaches to biological data. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in bioinformatics, genomics, and biomedical data analysis, as well as a passion for working with data to solve complex problems. The successful candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in a clinical or academic research setting. Strong programming and scripting skills are also required, with demonstrated proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Perl, Python, or Java. Candidates should have a knowledge of the principles of biological databases, including the ability to design, construct, and use relational databases. Working knowledge of statistics and a basic understanding of biological processes is also desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply computational approaches to biological data.
- Design, construct, and use relational databases to store biological data.
- Utilize programming and scripting skills to create software solutions to solve complex problems.
- Maintain and update existing bioinformatics databases.
- Process large datasets and analyze for trends and patterns.
- Work with clinical and academic research teams to support their data analysis needs.
- Communicate findings and solutions to research teams in a timely and efficient manner.
- Contribute to the team’s research and development efforts.
- Stay abreast of current developments and trends in bioinformatics.
- Assist in other research tasks as needed.
