- Support and assist medical staff in the operating room during surgical procedures.
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment in the operating room.
- Assist with patient positioning and transfer to and from the operating room.
- Monitor and record patient vitals and assist with anesthesia administration.
- Anticipate and respond to the needs of surgeons and other medical staff during procedures.
- Facilitate efficient turnover of operating rooms between procedures.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
- Proactively identify and report any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control protocols.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all procedures and patient information.
- Attend trainings and stay current on new surgical techniques and equipment.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and their families.
- Handle all equipment and supplies with care and ensure proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Assist with transporting patients to and from the operating room.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the overall success of the operating room department.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure smooth operation of the operating rooms.

High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Education Requirement For An Operating Room Assistant Job At Massachusetts General Hospital Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Understanding Of Academic Subjects And Is Able To Communicate Effectively.
Certified Surgical Technician (Cst) Or Certified Nursing Assistant (Cna) Certification: Having A Certification In Surgical Technology Or Nursing Assistant Demonstrates The Candidate's Knowledge And Skills In Assisting In Surgical Procedures And Working In A Healthcare Setting.
Previous Experience In A Surgical Or Healthcare Setting: Candidates With Previous Experience In A Surgical Or Healthcare Setting Will Have A Better Understanding Of The Expectations And Demands Of The Job. This Can Include Experience As A Surgical Technician, Nursing Assistant, Or Other Related Positions.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology And Procedures: Operating Room Assistants Need To Have A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology And Procedures In Order To Effectively Assist Surgeons And Other Healthcare Professionals During Surgeries.
