Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly organized, and detail-oriented Reference Librarian for Outreach and Engagement to join the Libraries at Massachusetts General Hospital. The successful candidate will provide a variety of library services to staff, faculty, students, and other patrons of the hospital. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and knowledge of library information systems and techniques. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing service to library users and an enthusiasm for learning new technologies and techniques. The position requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program, as well as a minimum of one year of experience in an academic or health sciences library. Knowledge of medical terminologies and the hospital environment is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide exceptional customer service to library users, including staff, faculty, students, and other patrons of the hospital.
  2. Utilize library information systems and techniques to meet user needs.
  3. Develop educational programs and outreach initiatives to support library users.
  4. Develop and maintain reference and instructional materials.
  5. Assist library users in utilizing library resources.
  6. Monitor and evaluate library services and usage.
  7. Investigate and resolve customer complaints.
  8. Collaborate with library staff to ensure quality library services.
  9. Keep abreast of new technologies and techniques related to libraries.
  10. Maintain knowledge of medical terminologies and the hospital environment.
