- Proper handling and identification of deceased individuals: Ensure that all deceased individuals are treated with respect and dignity during their time at the morgue.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the morgue: Keep the morgue clean and organized to create a professional and respectful environment.
- Follow proper procedures for handling and storing deceased individuals: Adhere to all protocols and procedures for handling and storing deceased individuals to ensure their proper care and respect.
- Assist with autopsies: Provide assistance to medical examiners and pathologists during autopsies, including preparing the body and collecting samples.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation: Keep detailed and accurate records of all individuals who enter and leave the morgue, as well as any procedures performed.
- Communicate with families and funeral homes: Communicate effectively and compassionately with families and funeral homes to provide information and assistance as needed.
- Prepare deceased individuals for viewing and transport: Prepare deceased individuals for viewing by family members and transport them to funeral homes as necessary.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information: Respect and maintain the confidentiality of all information related to deceased individuals and their families.
- Adhere to safety protocols: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to provide quality care for deceased individuals.
- Attend trainings and meetings: Attend all required trainings and meetings to stay updated on protocols, procedures, and regulations related to the morgue.
- Display empathy and compassion: Show empathy and compassion towards deceased individuals, their families, and colleagues, while maintaining professionalism at all times.
- Maintain a positive attitude: Maintain a positive and respectful attitude towards all individuals at all times, including during challenging and emotional situations.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures: Follow all hospital policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals.
Education And Training: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged Is Required, But A Degree In A Related Field Such As Mortuary Science Or Forensic Science Is Preferred.
Experience In Mortuary Or Forensic Services: Previous Experience Working In A Mortuary Or Forensic Setting, Handling Deceased Bodies, And Performing Autopsies Is Highly Desirable.
Attention To Detail: A Morgue Attendant Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail In Order To Accurately Maintain Records, Properly Handle And Store Bodies, And Follow Safety Protocols.
Physical Stamina: This Job Can Involve Physically Demanding Tasks Such As Lifting And Moving Bodies, Standing For Long Periods Of Time, And Working In Cold Temperatures.
Compassion And Sensitivity: Working With Deceased Individuals And Their Grieving Families Requires A High Level Of Empathy, Compassion, And Sensitivity. A Morgue Attendant Must Be Able To Handle These Situations With Professionalism And Care.
