  1. Provide compassionate and specialized care to newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  2. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
  3. Monitor and assess the health status of newborns, including vital signs, lab results, and other indicators.
  4. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  5. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and documentation.
  6. Educate and support parents and family members on caring for their newborn in the NICU.
  7. Advocate for and ensure the safety and well-being of all patients.
  8. Utilize evidence-based practices and stay current on latest research and developments in neonatal care.
  9. Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
  10. Communicate effectively with physicians, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  11. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  12. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  13. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, and educational opportunities.
  14. Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced nurses and students.
  15. Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing From An Accredited Institution: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Is Required For A Registered Nurse - Nicu Position At Musc Health. This Ensures That The Nurse Has Received A Comprehensive Education In Nursing And Is Well-Prepared To Provide Quality Care In A Specialized Unit Such As The Nicu.

  • Current Rn License In The State Of South Carolina: All Registered Nurses At Musc Health Must Hold A Current And Valid Rn License In The State Of South Carolina. This Ensures That The Nurse Has Met The Necessary Qualifications And Standards Set By The State's Board Of Nursing.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Musc Health Requires A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Nicu For Its Registered Nurse Position. This Ensures That The Nurse Has A Strong Foundation And Understanding Of The Specialized Care Required For Newborns And Infants In Critical Condition.

  • Bls And Nrp Certification: Basic Life Support (Bls) And Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certifications Are Required For All Registered Nurses At Musc Health. These Certifications Ensure That The Nurse Is Trained In Emergency Care And Resuscitation Techniques For Infants In The Nicu.

  • Strong Communication And Critical Thinking Skills: In A Fast-Paced And Highly Specialized Unit Like The Nicu, Effective Communication And Critical Thinking Skills Are Crucial For Providing Quality Care.
