- Provide support to patients undergoing bariatric surgery by assisting with pre and post-operative care
- Utilize knowledge and experience in bariatric surgery to assist healthcare providers in delivering quality care to patients
- Conduct patient intake, including taking vitals, obtaining medical history, and ensuring accurate documentation
- Prepare patients for procedures and assist during surgeries as needed
- Educate patients on post-operative care instructions and provide information on healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the clinic and exam rooms
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols and procedures
- Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth and development in the field of bariatric surgery
- Demonstrate sensitivity, empathy, and compassion towards patients as they navigate their weight loss journey
- Act as a positive representative of Novant Health and our bariatric surgery clinic in all interactions with patients, colleagues, and the community.
Completion Of An Accredited Medical Assistant Program: A Certified Medical Assistant At A Bariatric Surgery Clinic At Novant Health Should Have Completed An Accredited Medical Assistant Program And Possess The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Duties Required For The Role.
Certification As A Medical Assistant: The Candidate Should Be Certified As A Medical Assistant By A Recognized Certifying Agency Such As The American Association Of Medical Assistants (Aama) Or The American Medical Technologists (Amt).
Experience In A Bariatric Surgery Clinic Or Related Field: Candidates Should Have Prior Experience Working In A Bariatric Surgery Clinic Or A Related Field Such As General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Or Endocrinology. This Will Ensure Familiarity With The Unique Needs And Challenges Of Bariatric Patients.
Knowledge Of Bariatric Surgery Procedures And Protocols: The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Bariatric Surgery Procedures And Protocols, Including Pre-Operative And Post-Operative Care, As Well As The Ability To Assist The Surgeon During Procedures.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Certified Medical Assistant In This Role Should Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, As They Will Be Working Closely With Patients, Surgeons, And Other Healthcare Professionals. They Should Also Be Able To Provide Compassionate Care To Bariatric Patients And Be Sensitive To Their Specific Needs.
