- Develop and implement data privacy policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify potential privacy risks and make recommendations for remediation.
- Provide legal counsel and guidance to internal teams on data privacy matters, including data handling, sharing, and storage.
- Work closely with IT and security teams to ensure data privacy and security measures are in place and regularly updated.
- Monitor changes in data privacy regulations and ensure the organization's practices remain in compliance.
- Create and deliver training programs to educate employees on data privacy laws and best practices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for privacy-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Investigate and respond to privacy incidents and breaches, including reporting to appropriate authorities as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain data privacy impact assessments for new and existing systems.
- Advise on the development and implementation of data privacy impact assessments for new projects and initiatives.
- Conduct due diligence on third-party vendors and partners to ensure they meet data privacy and security standards.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices and provide recommendations for continuous improvement of our privacy program.
- Foster a culture of privacy awareness and accountability within the organization.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information at all times.
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings related to data privacy matters.
Knowledge Of Data Privacy Laws And Regulations: A Data Privacy Counsel At The State Of Tennessee Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Federal And State Data Privacy Laws, Such As The General Data Protection Regulation (Gdpr) And The California Consumer Privacy Act (Ccpa).
Experience With Data Privacy Compliance: Candidates For This Role Should Have Experience In Developing And Implementing Data Privacy Compliance Programs, Including Conducting Risk Assessments, Creating Policies And Procedures, And Training Employees On Data Privacy Best Practices.
Legal Background: A Strong Foundation In Law, Particularly In The Areas Of Privacy, Cybersecurity, And Information Security, Is Essential For A Data Privacy Counsel. This Includes A Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree And Admission To The State Bar.
Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: Data Privacy Issues Can Be Complex And Require A Thorough Analysis To Determine The Best Course Of Action. A Data Privacy Counsel Should Possess Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills To Effectively Navigate These Challenges.
