
Museum Archives Assistant

This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse collection of artifacts and documents while contributing to the preservation and accessibility of our institution's cultural heritage. - Manage and organize the Museum Archives collection, including artifacts and documents, using proper archival techniques and procedures.
- Conduct inventory and cataloging of new acquisitions and existing items in the collection.
- Ensure the proper handling, storage, and preservation of all items in the collection.
- Respond to research requests and assist in providing access to archival materials.
- Create and maintain an efficient filing and retrieval system for archival materials.
- Collaborate with museum staff to plan and execute exhibitions and displays featuring archival materials.
- Assist in the development and implementation of digitization projects to increase accessibility of the collection.
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments of the collection to identify any preservation or conservation needs.
- Train and supervise volunteers and interns assisting with archival tasks.
- Stay updated on current archival practices and standards to ensure the proper care and management of the collection.
- Participate in fundraising and outreach efforts to support the Museum Archives and its mission.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all archival activities and procedures.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Museum Archives' online presence.
- Collaborate with other institutions and organizations to share resources and knowledge related to preservation and management of cultural heritage.
- Uphold the mission and values of the University of New Mexico's Museum Archives in all aspects of the job.
Bachelor's Degree In Library Science, Archival Studies, History, Or A Related Field, Or Equivalent Combination Of Education And Experience.
Experience Working In A Museum Or Archive Setting, With Knowledge Of Best Practices For Cataloging And Preserving Historical Materials.
Familiarity With Archival Software And Databases, Such As Archivesspace Or Pastperfect.
Strong Organizational Skills And Attention To Detail, With The Ability To Manage Multiple Projects And Prioritize Tasks.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Colleagues And Interact With Researchers And The Public.
