Job Description

At UNC Health Care, we are looking for an experienced and professional Medical Coder Auditor- HIM Coding & CDI Quality to join our team. The ideal candidate is someone passionate about providing accurate and compliant coding and documentation services for our health care system. The Medical Coder Auditor will work with a team of coding and quality professionals to ensure that our coding and documentation practices meet and exceed regulatory and compliance standards. To be successful in this position, the individual must possess a strong knowledge of health care coding and documentation principles, processes, and standards.The ideal candidate for the role of Medical Coder Auditor will have the following qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, health information management, or related field • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential • 3+ years of experience in a healthcare coding and documentation setting• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment• Must be detail-oriented and highly organizedIf you have the qualifications and passion for helping UNC Health Care maintain accurate and compliant coding and documentation practices, we would love to hear from you!

Responsibilities of Medical Coder Auditor:

  1. Ensure coding and documentation meet and exceed regulatory and compliance standards.
  2. Monitor coding accuracy and compliance with coding rules and regulations.
  3. Analyze medical records for accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  4. Maintain and update coding and documentation guidelines.
  5. Perform audits and provide feedback to coding staff.
  6. Assist in developing and implementing coding and documentation best practices.
  7. Analyze data to identify trends and potential areas of improvement.
  8. Maintain knowledge of current coding and documentation guidelines.
  9. Collaborate with other departments to ensure accuracy and compliance with coding and documentation standards.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
