Job Description

At West Virginia United Health System, we are looking for a motivated and experienced Hospital Coding Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive coding and documentation services for all patients and ensure timely and accurate coding of inpatient and outpatient hospital records. The ideal candidate for this position will have a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology and a minimum of 3-5 years of coding experience. A Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) designation is preferred. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a commitment to accuracy, and a strong attention to detail. Responsibilities:

  1. Review medical records for accurate and complete documentation and coding of inpatient and outpatient hospital records.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate coding of patient records.
  3. Utilize medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology knowledge to identify proper coding of patient records.
  4. Maintain compliance with coding regulations and standards.
  5. Provide coding advice and guidance to physicians and other medical staff.
  6. Maintain and update coding databases.
  7. Monitor coding data for accuracy and integrity.
  8. Identify and resolve coding discrepancies.
  9. Participate in coding audits and provide feedback and recommendations.
  10. Provide coding education and training for staff.
